Revtangen BO August 3rd - ringing around the clock

Finally the wind died off almost completely, and shifted back into our more favoured SE. So we went "all in" trapping through the night and continued at the bird observatory in the morning! An effort to trap Green Sandpiper by the new pond using playback in the dark hours was terminated early because there were too many bats around the nets. So we turned all our attention to Reve Kai just nort of the bird observatory, where European Storm Petrels are tape-lured and trapped with mist-nets at night. 6 petrels were trapped, bringing the total to 14 so far this year. Two mist-nets on the beach with Common Sandpiper playback also produced two Common Sandpipers, and oddly enough, a Sedge Wabler at 3 o'clock....

At the bird observatory nets were open 05-17, netmeter hours approx. 4000. Playback on green sandpiper, linnet, willow warbler (08-10) and barn swallow (10-17). An effort with playback on garden warbler and grasshopper warbler in the early hours produced nothing, so probably still too early for any noteworthy migration.

Ringed (Reve Kai and bird observatory combined): Europeand storm petrel 6, common sandpiper 2, green sandpiper 2, barn swallow 13, white wagtail 3, sedge warbler 1, common whitethroat 2, willow warbler 17, starling 20, tree sparrow 1, house sparrow 1, greenfinch 10, linnet 9, lesser redpoll 5. Total = 93. Also 5 controls.

Ringmerket: Havsvale 6, strandsnipe 2, skogsnipe 2, låvesvale 13, linerle 3, sivsanger 1, tornsanger 2, løvsanger 17, stær 20, pilfink 1, gråspurv 1, grønnfink 10, tornirisk 9, brunsisik 5. Total = 93. Også 5 kontroller.
