Revtangen BO June 21st

Finally a day with only light winds, but mainly from the W. Nets up 09-17, netmeter hours approx. 2500. 

Ringed: Blackbird 1, common whitethroat 1, house sparrow 18, tree sparrow 1, chaffinch 10, greenfinch 1, lesser redpoll 4, siskin 1. Total = 37. Also 25 controls, including a lesser whitethroat ringed in May 2014.

Ringmerket: Svarttrost 1, tornsanger 1, gråspurv 18, pilfink 1, bokfink 10, grønnfink 1, brunsisik 4, grønnsisik 1. Total = 37. 



In the afternoon we found this odd couple sitting in the grass. They are Pine sawflies (Diprion pini), male (top) and female. Vanlig furubarveps.

Revtangen BO June 20th

Some of the nets were up from 11.30-16.30, netmeter hours approx. 860. N-NW 6-10 m/s, mostly cloudy. 

Ringed: Barn swallow 2, lesser whitethroat 2, starling 1, house sparrow 45, chaffinch 5, greenfinch 1, linnet 1. Total = 57. Also 6 controls. 

The bird observatory had a visit from the history conference at the University of Stavanger, "Norwegian History Days 2015".

Revtangen BO June 12th

Finally a day without too much wind, light SE turning W around 9-10. Nets up 05.30-17.30, netmeter hours approx. 4000. 

Ringed: Collared dove 1, grey wagtail 1, meadow pipit 3, fieldfare 1, common whitethroat 1, starling 16, house sparrow 29, chaffinch 4, greenfinch 1, lesser redpoll 6, siskin 20, linnet 2. Total = 85. Also 12 controls. 

Ringmerket: Tyrkedue 1, vintererle 1, heipiplerke 3, gråtrost 1, tornsanger 1, stær 16, gråspurv 29, bokfink 4, grønnfink 1, brunsisik 6, grønnsisik 20, tornirisk 2.  

This juvenile grey wagtail was the surprise of the day. We normally don't catch this species before the end of September. Dagens overraskelse, juvenil vintererle.

Revtangen BO June 5th

SE light winds in the morning, turning SSE and increasing. Part cloudy, later mostly sunny. From 10 it was too windy for any efficient trapping with mist nets. Nets open 06-12, netmeter hous approx. 2000. The temperature rose from 8-18 degrees during the day, the warmest we've had so far this year. 

Ringed: Wood pigeon 1, fieldfare 2, sedge warbler 1, marsh warbler 1, common whitethroat 1, lesser whitethroat 1, blackcap 2, chiffchaff 1, great tit 1, starling 1, house sparrow 3, chaffinch 1, siskin 11, lesser redpoll 15, mealy redpoll 2, linnet 3. Total = 47. Also a control of a tree sparrow with a Norwegian ring not from Revtangen, very unusual indeed..... The first (very recently) fledged linnet was also trapped today. 

Marsh warbler. The first spring record at Revtangen BO since 2008, and the 13th ringed in total. Myrsanger. Første vårfunn på Revtangen OS siden 2008, og den 13. totalt på stasjonen.

Ringmerket: Ringdue 1, gråtrost 2, sivsanger 1, myrsanger 1, tornsanger1, møller 1, munk 2, gransanger 1, kjøttmeis 1, stær 1, gråspurv 3, bokfink 1, grønnsisik 11, brunsisik 15, gråsisik 2, tornirisk 3. Også en fremmedkontroll av pilfink.   

Still rather cold during the night and our two Robinson-traps contained only 5 moths this morning. This Silver Y (Autographa gamma) was one of them, in addition to another Silver Y, a Small Square-spot (Diarsia rubi), a Broom Moth (Ceramica pisi) and a Puss Moth (Cerura vinula).
