Revtangen BO October 14th

A perfectly clear night with only a faint breeze from the east. No clouds resulted in the coldest morning so far with only 3 degrees celcius, but around midday the sun still produced enough heat for a few red admirals and a very late painted lady still on the wing. Playback on tengmalm's owl 01-06, redwing, song thrush and blackcap at dawn, grey wagtail, brambling and goldfinch later on.

Ringed: Common kestrel 1, tengmalm's owl 2, grey wagtail 1, winter wren 18, european robin 4, blackbird 3, fieldfare 3, song thrush 2, redwing 4, blackcap 5, willow warbler 1, goldcrest 113, blue tit 3, great tit 7, tree sparrow 2, chaffinch 1, brambling 59, greenfinch 2, goldfinch 1, mealy redpoll 1, lesser redpoll 1, linnet 1. Total = 235. Also 23 controls, including a british brambling.

Ringmerket: Tårnfalk 1, perleugle 2, vintererle 1, gjerdesmett 18, rødstrupe 4, svarttrost 3, gråtrost 3, måltrost 2, rødvingetrost 4, munk 5, løvsanger 1, fuglekonge 113, blåmeis 3, kjøttmeis 7, pilfink 2, bokfink 1, bjørkefink 59, grønnfink 2, stillits 1, gråsisik 1, brunsisik 1, tornirisk 1. Total = 235. Også 23 kontroller, inkludert en britisk bjørkefink.

The highlight of today's catch was this 1 cy common kestrel. Although we see this species all the time they are almost never trapped, and the last one was in 1995. Tårnfalk, den første merket ved stasjonen siden 1995.

We haven't made any serious attempts this season at trapping tengmalm's owls before last night, and very few have been ringed elsewhere on the west coast. Turns out there were a few around, and two were caught between 01 and 03. Both were 1 cy. Perleugle.

1 cy female european goldfinch. Stillits, 1k hunn.

Observations: Brambling 400 migrating north, european goldfinch 12, rough-legged buzzard 1, hen harrier 1, barred warbler 1 ringed bird still in the garden.
